World of Wonder and Dartmouth Films are proud to present Blue Oyster Pictures’ acclaimed documentary DRESSED AS A GIRL.
Following the rapturous receptions at film festivals around the world including Galway Film Fleadh, London's East End Film Festival and Mix Copenhagen Film Festival, Colin Rothbart’s new film DRESSED AS A GIRL is now available in all international territories.
London’s alternative East End drag phenomenon gets its moment in this fabulous account of six years in the lives of its most celebrated performers. See Jonny Woo, John Sizzle, Holestar, Scottee, Amber, Pia and Ma Butcher dazzle, surprise and outrage audiences with their antics on-stage and behind the scenes.
The film is both a record of a fascinating style of hyper-costumed performance and an insight into the fragile personal lives of these artists. This is truly the "frockumentary of the year".
Following a well received work in progress slot at Sheffield Doc/Fest in 2014, Blue Oyster Pictures teamed up with executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato of World Of Wonder (makers of the hit TV phenomenon Rupaul’s Drag Race) and Christopher Hird of Dartmouth Films (makers of the award winning documentary Still The Enemy Within) to polish a 94-minute documentary.
DRESSED AS A GIRL had its world premiere at London’s BFI Flare in 2015 followed by UK release at the end of 2015 opening to enthusiastic reviews and landing on many Top 10 lists with Little White Lies declaring the film is “an authentic slice of queer London history.”
Meanwhile Sight & Sound enthused "Dressed as a Girl matures startlingly as it progresses, skilfully picking out what's most fascinating about its central characters and their contrasting journeys through adulthood... grotesquely glamourous.” Read the full review here.
